Standard Advantages of BSDE Hazardous-Duty Air Conditioning

  • All units are designed and built from scratch to be "explosion proof" and industrial weight. None are modifications of units built by others for residential or commercial applications
  • All necessary components, including compressors, are specifically recognized by Underwriter Laboratories (UL) as suitable for use in hazardous areas for which the units are rated.
  • All units are sealed at the factory to make installation easier, faster, and safer and none have the unsightly NEMA 7 box on the outside of the unit.

Standard Advantages of BSDE Air Conditioners

1. Wide spacing of fins (maximum of 10-fins-per-inch) in evaporator and condenser coils allows airborne particles to pass between fins. In normal designs with 16 or more fins-per-inch, the fins are so close together that they trap dirt and fibers from the air. As these particles accumulate, they increasingly restrict the flow of air through the coil, thereby reducing its efficiency and life span. If trapped particles are corrosive or wet from rain or condensation, they can actually damage the coil.

2. BSDE protects all condensers and evaporators against corrosion with a special epoxy coating (e-coat) with near-zero porosity. BSDE applies this protection by immersing the coils in electrically-charged baths of the coating and then baking them. Since it is electrostatically applied, the coating provides uniform excellent resistance to acidic and caustic liquids, solvents, inorganic salts and water found in harsh environments.

3. All units have oversized condensers, accumulators, receivers, head-pressure controls, and other adaptations to enable them to maintain their full rated capacities in ambient temperatures of up to 131ºF (55C) and down to 32ºF (0C) without adaptation. As an option, they can also be modified to cool in ambient conditions as low as -40ºF/C.

4. All components mounted on a heavy-duty 316L stainless-steel slide-out tray for easy service.

5. To assure long compressor life, BSDE uses only reciprocating or scroll-type hermetic compressors.

6. To protect motor windings from dirt, dust, salt and moisture, blower/fan motors are totally enclosed and have stainless-steel shafts.

7. Unlike manufacturers of residential and commercial-grade air conditioners, BSDE uses fans without slinger wheels, which do not throw condensation water onto the condenser. Keeping condensers dry makes it harder for debris in the air to stick to the condensers and gases can not combine with moisture to form corrosive, acidic, or caustic solutions.

8. BSDE protects costly components from damage with high- and low-pressure safety switches and accumulators. Refrigerant access valves and isolation valves in all units also make maintenance easier.

9. To further increase unit life, BSDE makes all cabinets of durable resilient 316L stainless steel up to 16 gauge instead of the 22 or lighter gauge steel used in commercial-grade air conditioners. Also, BSDE uses only mechanical controls, instead of electronic ones, to reduce susceptibility to electrical problems, such as voltage spikes. NEMA 4X boxes further protect controls. Overall the units meet the NEMA 4X and IEC IP56 standards.

10. BSDE makes all three styles of air conditioners in five standard capacities (all ratings are at 131ºF (55C) ambient temperature): 12,000 & 18,000 BTUH with dimensions: 28" (71.1 cm) x 38 1/4" (97.2 cm) x 18-3/16" (45.7 cm) high and 24,000 & 30,000 & 36,000 BTUH with dimensions: 28" (71.1 cm) x 48" (121.9 cm) x 20-3/16" (50.8 cm) high.

11. Units can have 5 KW and 10 KW of heat as an option using Incoloy® tubular heaters to make them more durable than simple wire heaters in harsh atmospheres. Heat (optional): produced by harsh-duty Incoloy® tubular elements to make heater more durable than simple wire heaters in corrosive environments—5 KW and 10 KW.

12. All units can be modified for hazardous (explosive) locations (without a bulky external explosion-proof or flame-proof box) and for most for single or three-phase configurations.
